School Visits

School presentation K -3rd grade – Pricing: $200/hr

For my presentation, I will read one of my books and explain the process of how a book is made. I will show original and edited manuscripts, character sketches, galleys, proofs, and original artwork so that students can see all the pieces that go into creating a book. I will discuss where ideas come from and I will talk about the writing process and the importance of rewriting and editing, nobody gets anything right the first time and it is important to understand that!

• Read the Book ~ 10 min

• Create your own story exercise with Kids ~ 15 – 20 min

Kids create their own beginning, middle and end based on the first line Monster Needs…

This is a great exercise where kids learn how a story can be about anything and how easy it is to come up with its basic structure.

Individual classes  1st-3rd - Pricing: $200/hr

For older students/beginning writer’s :  Using the Monster and Me™ series as inspiration as well as their own experiences each student will come up with what Monster needs and why.

Then they get to write their own story!

I walk through the steps of creating a beginning, middle and an end.   I stress what they are writing is the first draft and not to worry about mistakes and to let their ideas flow.  Revision is an important part of writing!  45 minutes

Virtual Visit $75/visit

We are now in the world of zoom. If you would rather a virtual visit I can pop in on your computer. Read a book or two and answer whatever questions the kids have.
