Getting ready to read Monster Needs a Costume to my kinders today and I noticed your bio. I gasped out loud. “What happened?” my young friends asked. “When this author was in school, he got a zero on his writing piece and his teacher told him he couldn’t write!” “That’s wrong!” exclaimed one of my young writers. “EVERYONE can write!”

We are a writing workshop school, which is not that common here in Northern California. But, even my kinders on day 42 believe in themselves and their ability to express themselves.

Thanks for putting that in your bio so it could be a teaching point for my new apprentices. And if you ever need a small country school to visit in California, our doors are open!

      Hi Joyce

I am so glad your students found that inspiring! F’s happen, it’s how we learn, something I realized working in science. There is no such thing as a failed experiment, there is only a result. What you do with that result is what matters.

I would love to visit your class, but since I do have a fee and being from NJ that could get pricey. But there is always Skype.
